The Carl Pavano Homecoming

Here's a wild thought for today, the Yankees pretty much have the best record in baseball locked up. This means they're going to have to face either the Tigers or Twins in the first round of the playoffs. Although the Tigers have a slim lead, the Twins are very close. I decided to check out the Twins roster. Guess who the second starter on their depth chart is? None other than Carl Pavano. That could set up an intriguing matchup between the two former Marlins teammates, Burnett and Pavano, for Game Two, no? I'm rooting for the Twins to win the AL Central just so we can get the sight of Carl Pavano being booed off the mound in Yankee Stadium.

Who would I rather face? Verlander or the American Idle? Lemme think...

Besides, while I know that season records mean little in the post season, its hard to ignore the Yanks performance against the Twinkies this year. When picking your poisons, you take what you can get.

Verlander, Jackson, Washburn + a lineup that features Miguel Cabrera, Inge, Ordonez, Guillen, and Granderson
or
Scott Baker, Pavano, Nick Blackburn, and Liriano? + a lineup that features Mauer and Jason Kubel

I'd take the Twins anyday, not just for Pavano

After 2006 (wanted to play the Tigers), and 2007 (wanted to play Cleveland), I will no longer state a preference. I just hope the Yankees win.

haha i guess your right, but it can't hurt to face the Twins, even with their bullpen being better

We're 5-1 vs. the Tigers this year and 6-0 vs. the Twins. If the Twins make the playoffs, that eliminates any chance for Tex or Jeter to be MVP. However, the Twins don't have anywhere near as much rotation depth as the Tigers.

I'd play the Twins.

I think anyone would take a WS Title over an MVP for Tex or Jeter, including the two themselves.

Tonight is kind of a big game. If the Yankees lose they go into Anaheim with just a 5 game lead over Boston while Boston plays Kansas City. Then we would have to face them at home with possibly just a 2 game lead. I don't see the Yanks getting swept by the Angels but anything is possible.

I feel exactly the same way as Greg. I just want to beat whatever team comes our way.

That would be cool to see Pavano in the playoffs.

I can imagine him getting booed just slightly less than Bin Laden.

Believe it or not, the one and only game I ever attended at the old Yankee Stadium Carl Pavano pitched, and won.
