News & Notes

- The Yanks are 43-17 since the All-Star break. They've also won 56 of their last 78, and at 94-54 they have the best record in all of baseball. They currently lead Boston by 6 games in the AL East. They also lead the Angels by 5.5 games for the best record in baseball. Their magic number to clinch the AL East is 10.

At 42-21 the Yankees have the second best road record in the American League, behind on the Angels who are 44-32.

- In 13 starts against the Mariners CC Sabathia is 5-4, with a 3.21 ERA. He's faced them twice this season and is 1-1, with a 4.61 ERA. In his last starts against them he went 8 innings, allowed just one run on three hits, walked two and struck out ten.

- Doug Fister won his only career start against the Yankees back on August 16th. He last 7 innings allowing three run on eight hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out four.

Over his last nine starts he's 7-0 with a 2.48 ERA. The first game in that stretch was the game in Chicago when he allowed five runs, so if you take that out he's 6-0 with a 2.01 ERA in his last eight starts. In his last 58.1 IP he's allowed 13 ER on 41 hits, walked 15, and struck out 64.

Another triple for Teix!!! 1-0 Yanks!

Brian Danuff said...

Man, Teix last had a triple 2 years ago and now he has 3 this week.

It's a crazy game this baseball.

Brian Danuff said...

Sure is.

Swish pops up, Yanks strand 2.

We also had a chance to score a few runs in the 1st last night and didn't take it. Hope history doesn't repeat itself as we don't want to lose this one with CC on the mound.

Brian Danuff said...

Yep.

Capone said...

Yet another man left at 3rd with less than 2 outs. Thats 2 for those keeping track at home...

bruceb said...

What was the biggest reason we lost last night? Not just Mo, but the fact that we let this team stay in the game by failing to tack on. We're just not firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Greg Cohen said...

True, hopefully CC can throw a gem.

Brian Danuff said...

Huh, did you hear? Brian Bruney switched his uniform # from 38 to 99. Maybe since it worked for Manny it will work for him.

Greg Cohen said...

With baseball players you never know. These little, seemingly meaningless things, can make a huge difference just because it changes their thinking.

Brian Danuff said...

True.

Alright, I'm gonna hit the hay now. I'll hear about the rest of the game tomorrow.

Later.

Night YB.

Reminds me of the old joke about the guy rowing on the lake. The boatkeeper shouts out on the megaphone: "Come in No. 99, your time's up." No response. A few minutes later, he says: "No. 66, are you in trouble?" Let's hope it helps the Sultan turn his season upside down. I know...it's not that funny.

Matsui makes it 2-0 Yanks with his 26th homer of the season.

Way to go Matsui :D!!!!

Nice! Tex gives the Yanks some breathing room with a three-run bomb.

bruceb said...

That's more like the Yankees we've come to love and know! Now shut'em down for another 3 please CC.

How's it going all?

Nice to see the Yanks come back and put a hurting on Seattle so far after a tough loss.

Greg Cohen said...

Hey CF, I'm good, you?

Yea, very good to see them playing a solid game after yesterday's loss. We probably shouldn't be surprised. They've done it all year.

Greg Cohen said...

It hit him in the chest. Glad that missed his hand and head.

I hope CC is okay. That was scary.

Greg Cohen said...

Ohhhhh what a play by Teixeira.... CC is one tough dude. He just took a 100 MPH fastball off the chest. You can tell how much pain he's in, but he still made his pitches.

crossfire said...

Ok, who else soiled themselves when CC got hit? LOL

Man that could have been tragic!

I'm doing really well. It's my oldest kids 21st birthday and he's in the city... watching the game and getting plastered. LOL

Greg Cohen said...

Oh nice, congrats!

crossfire said...

Only 18 1/2 years till my next kid hits 21.

I like to space them. LOL

Here is a pic of me and my 2 boys at yankee Stadium. It was my youngest Stephen's first time at the Stadium.

CC is a beast.

Karen said...

aw such a cute kid...hahahaha uncle phil.

Greg Cohen said...

New number, same crappy arm.

Greg Cohen said...

Hahahah Tex looks pissed at himself for hitting that out. What a game for Tex.

crossfire said...

ain't that the truth! Actually he has a great arm... just doesn't know how to control it.

Beltre swung at that pitch and it was up in his eyes. Good hitters won't swing at that crap and Bruney didn't mean to throw it there.

Wow... Tex just jacked another one! One from each side of the plate!

Damn he's good!

crossfire said...

Yeah, he was a double away from the cycle.

Karen said...

Yay!!!

Greg Cohen said...

Nice win for the Yanks tonight. Co-players of the game: CC Sabathia and Mark Teixeira.

The magic number for the AL East drops to single digits and for the post season magic number is now just 2.

I personally hope they only acknowledge the fact that they make the post season and then celebrate a little when they win the east.
