News & Notes
- The Yanks are 44-19 since the All-Star break. They've also won 57 of their last 81, and at 95-56 they have the best record in all of baseball. They currently lead Boston by 5 games in the AL East. They also lead the Angels by 4.5 games for the best record in baseball. Their magic number to clinch the AL East is 8.
- On the not so positive side, they've lost 6 of their last 10 and have seen their lead in the east shrink by four games.
- At 43-33 the Yankees have the second best road record in the American League.
- In 18 games (8 starts) against the Angels, Chad Gaudin is 3-3, with a 5.53 ERA. 11 of those games (5 starts) were in Anaheim where he's 2-2, with an 8.33 ERA. He faced them once this year when he was on the Padres, and in 3 innings he allowed 8 runs on 10 hits.
As a Yankee he's 1-0, with a 3.68 ERA. In 4 starts he's 0-0 with a 3.20 ERA and the Yankees are 4-0 in those games.
In 7 starts against the Yankees, Ervin Santana is 5-2, with a 5.09 ERA. He has not faced them this season.
In his last 8 starts Santana is 3-2, with a 3.08 ERA.
- The Yankees a 3-5 against the Angels this year, and 0-4 in Anaheim.
- With a win or a Rangers loss tonight the Yankees would clinch a playoff berth.
- Phil Coke is out due to acute gastrits, which is basically a stomach virus.
- It's a good think Brett Gardner is starting tonight because Melky Cabrera is just 1 for his last 19.
- I'll be updating the Boston game throughout the night in the comments section.
UPDATE 9:01 p.m.: David Robertson threw a bullpen session today and said he felt fine after. He also said he hopes to have one more BP session before he can return.
UPDATE: 11:00 p.m.: Boston lost to KC again... Wow what a break.... Magic number down to 7.
Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.

I just want the yankees to win against the Angels. Or take the series.
You and me both, Liam.
And Greg, when's the next live chat? I think it should be this weekend.
Yea, it will be for one of the Sox games. I was gonna do one for this series but the late starts and then tomorrow's early start killed that idea.
Yeah.
BTW, click on my name, there is a question that you should answer.
What question?
Oh yeah, I might not be around on Friday, theirs a fair that only comes once a year that near me so i'll be there for most of the day. The best part is, NO SCHOOL!
It's right under the About me paragraph.
"Do you think that someday i'll think of another question?"
I don't know what that means.
It means will I think of a question to put on their.
Ummmm... Yes?
I thought of another question already!
I almost forgot, Jack got in trouble today. He called a girl fat. And she his a little chunky.
lol
Jack is chunky too so I don't think he should of said anything.
Hope the Yanks won't tank...
I gotta put my animals in their houses so i'm leaving for a little while.
Same here Bryan.
What animals Liam?
Hey Bryan, me too.
I have goats, chickens, ducks, dogs, parrots.
I'm not really around when Jack is, but I read his stuff that he wrote... lol. This kid is 14? I'm 15, that sounds like crap a 3 year old would write. HAHA. Liam, good luck with him, even though--- i think it said his dad blocked it??? Correct me if I'm wrong...
but Greg, I forgot to tell you, I don't know why. I went to St. Louis for my dad's cousin's wedding, and I went to a Cardinals/Dodgers game. I got Joe Torre's autograph. Same Joe, didn't say a word, but damn- the guy could manage. I <3 Joe Torre, lol, and I don't know why more people don't.
Woo hoo.... KC is already up 1-0 and have the bases loaded with nobody out.
LET's GO ROYALS!
Wow, Liam that's cool. I love animals. Do you live on a farm or something?
2-0, bags still juiced.
3-0, 2nd and 3rd, one out.
I <3 Royals/Zack Greinke
Greg, I don't know if you read what I wrote^^^... but I'm bored so I'd like to know if people here thought Joe Torre should have been fired, and if we would have this season with him instead of Girardi
Yea, I just saw it Joe, that's really cool. And no, I don't think he should have been let go. He was a fantastic Yankee manager who knew how to manage in this city.
5-0 KC after one.
Thanks, and yeah I don't think he should have been fired, but then I'm unsure if we'd have the same season with him this year.... but then you don't know what happens last year either, do you?
There is no reason to believe that'd he do any worse than Girardi did. After all, the guy took this team to the postseason 12 straight seasons. It's a shame a lot of Yankees fans don't understand just what kind of achievement that is.

I understand the achievement, even more so now that we weren't in the postseason last year. But things like Burnett pies, Swisher and Nady debate in the beginning of the season --- the bullpen, I don't know if Torre would have handled it the same way. Hell, he might have handled it better. That's the beauty and curse of questions like this.
Well,
I love being on here- but all good things must end, i g2g watch TV (none by my comp.) I'll tty tmro Greg, YB, Liam. PCE
oh yeah,
GO YANKEES!!!
Joe, sorry was in the other room for a moment. I know what you mean about those things, they probably wouldn't fly under Torre's watch. However, I'm not sure if that would effect there wins and losses. There's a possibly it could hurt, but you never know.
I'm back, it's like a farm Greg.
Yes Joe his dad blocked this site from him. He even said so right in front of me. You got Torres autograph, thats so cool!
yanks better win tonight. Im stayin up cuz i dont have cable so its a holiday when the game is on, and even worse my principal is pissed at me cuz im late to school everyday so it better've been worth me staying up.
Hahahaha, anything for the Yanks, right a7tex?
ya man anything, i mean I would be up anyway so its better that i watch
Hope Gaudin proves me wrong but how long before Girardi brings Aceves in tonight? He must be on a short leash.
Same here.
Hey Bruce, how's it going tonight?
Hey guys. Just got back from religion class.
What's up?
Nothin Much man, u?
Me neither.
Hey YB, how's it going?
Boston still trailing 5-0 after 4.
Nice!
I can't believe that their is only 10 games left. This season has gone by fast.
I know. Hey, you think if we are able to take the next 2 we could clinch the East against the Sox? That would be awesome.
It has, but the real season hasn't even started yet. Let's just hope it lasts more than one series this time around.
It's possible. I certainly hope they can.
Good ty Greg. Hope the Royals hold on to the lead (I take it they're still leading?) as it will make it a less stressful night for this particular panicking Yankee fan.
Thank god for KC. A yankee win tonight would be so huge
Boston is being 1 hit by KC still.
Hey Capone, what's up?
Chillin bro. Thank god no more 10 o clock games after tonight
You said it.
True.
i hate when the season ends, but that brings me to my saying to my met fan friends... " Thank god im a yankee fan, cuz when the season is over I still get that extra month of baseball season"
lol
Take it Byrd was starting for Sox tonight? How long before they pulled him?
Bryd is still in there. He's claiming down a little bit.
I'm tired, see ya guys later.
Whats up MoFos?
Sleeping.
Ty Liam...now get on with your homework!
My homework is all done. Time to sleep. YAWN!!
I feel bad for my friends that are mets fans too...
mostly b/c they now owe me a 100 bucks :P
Looks like Greinke is just cruisin along.
Morning All,
Check out what we have had going on in Sydney this morning, heaps of red dust, preet cool
http://www.news.com.au/
Hopefully the Yanks can win this game and get on a roll.
What's up Durden?
Bruce, they just took him out now in the 7th.
Hey Roger, good morning.
Whoa, looks like the end of days over there.
Should have let him for the whole game. Their bullpen is seriously dodgy.
Jeez, what is this, the 3rd consectuive game where we put runners on in the 1st and can't score 1?
Yeah its been an amazing morning, did look like the end of the world when i first got up but just a heap of red dust blown in from out west.
shit.
That sucks. Just not taking our chances at the moment. That might be the best one of the night.
Really needed to score at least 1 run there, hopefully it doesnt come back to bite us later
he is zooooming!! lol Go Gardner!!
5-1 now in KC... Royals batting in the 8th.
Gardner is becoming a hell of a center fielder by the way.
i need to buy a gardner jersey
Hey Liam, I didn't know your favorite music was The Beatles... That's so cool considering your age. Most kids your age have no idea what good music is. Stupid MTV.
Yet another opportunity wasted. This is really becoming hard to watch
hey greg, not much, neck deep in legal work for school. pulling an all nighter and would like to start that off with a Yankee win.
Gardner has impressed me too, I think he'll be a huge weapon in the playoffs coming off the bench.
Don't ya just love those all nighters? lol
I've pull many myself. The next day is such hell.
Good luck to you my friend.
Oh I love the Beatles too Greg. Click on my profile and see.
yeah, im probably going to mix in a redbull-vodka or 2 somewhere in-between.
luckly i dont have class till 2 tomorrow.
I'm seriously sleep-deprived and these Yanks are not making me any less grumpy in the morning. All we keep doing at the moment is letting average pitchers off the hook.
Nice, YB. You are a man beyond your years. It's so refreshing to see kids enjoying real music.
Led Zeppelin FTW
Hahahaha, nice; all nighter + alcohol... even better.
That's what a lot of people say to me. Thanks.
And with that, I'll turn off my PC and go to bed. I'll probably be watching a couple more innings tohugh.
Hopefully the Yanks can win tonight and finally clinch a playoff spot.
Later, and go Yankees!
its the only way to go.
Zeppelin is my favorite rock group of all-time.
Night, YB.
Sox lose!
And ESPN weeps.
I really belonged in the 1950's-1970's. I wish I got to see Zeppelin all together kickin' ass on stage, but Robert Plant just wont get back with the program.
HEndrix, The Who, all them I cant see these days.
Thank you KC!!!
"I really belonged in the 1950's-1970's."
You and me both, man.
You don't like any "new" artists Greg?
I saw the Who back in 82 at Shea with the Clash. Great show. (seen them several other times too.)
tex!!!!!!!!
I did get to see Robert Plant live though. He did a show with some lady named Allison Krauss. It was...it was not thought possible...it was bad. My girl and I listen to a few songs, then all of a sudden we hear a familiar tune. It was Black Dog! but it suck ass! the guys playing it were using fiddles, banjos, violins, it was such a shit interpretation. we got up immediately and left. One of the must disappointing moments in my life.
Wow didnt mean to go rant-ish on that.
AN A-BOMB FROM A-ROD!
Nah anon, there are a good number of groups/singers I like that are new.
I really like 90's hip hop, and even some newer stuff like Eminen, Kanye, and Jay-Z. I liked Korn before they got lame, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam also before they got lame, Nirvana, Staind, Godsmack, Live, Sublime, some Shinedown, Audioslave, etc. But my favorite stuff is from before I was even a thought. I love Bob Marley, all the great rock bands of the 60s and 70s, Motown, even doowop and all the way back to Sinatra. I like a lot of different stuff as long as I consider it good.
NICE ALEX!
OH MY A-GOD WHAT A SHOT!! btw if anyone didnt know tex is up to .293
greg as i read your list i said "please god no nickleback, no nickleback, don't be a lame-o."
Nah man, no freaking nickleback. lol
i don't understand the big frackin' deal with that band. they're so popular around where I live that its not funny.
Because people our age and younger are retarded and like whatever MTV tells them to like. It's sad.
Hopefully A-Rod is out of his mini-slump. He likes it here. Only guy who does!
POSADA!
HIP HIP
YES!!!! 4-0 Yanks!
you suck.
Right anon... I thought your dad told you to stay off this site? I have your home phone number and will not hesitate to use it. F*** off.
im not jack asshole.
your ignorance is amazing.
lol
i really hate people like this sox fan
Me too Durden. Me too.
wow that play was sick.
hate you too durden.
anyone breaking benjamin fans, avenged sevenfold?? disturbed??
Yea, that was pretty sick.
fucked your mother.
not really into those bands.
I like Disturbed. Haven't really heard much of the other two.
fuck you durden
awww i hit a soft spot.
(pun intended)
I also heard the Disturbed lead singer (no idea what his name is) talk about their music and he said a lot of stuff I respected. The love of music, putting out what they liked as opposed to what record exects like, etc. Stuff you don't hear much from people today.
fuck u
cant fuck with a yankee fan anon.
i suck.
...nice try.
Honestly as far as music goes I like anything that's good, regardless of the era. Hell, I even like classical and blues from the 30's like Rob Johnson. And how could I forget Johnny Cash from my list.
well, breaking benjamin is coming out with a new album in 7 days theyre my favorite band, so i needed to find a few fans if possible on the chat. Greg you should check em out. Disturbed lead singer David Draiman is Jewish then got into all these questions and went off track.
I'll check 'em out a7tex.
Why no Faith in young Joba?
Joba, we just want you (or the guy you're pretending to be) to give us faith.
I have.
not since 2007.
hope youll like them. Check out avenged sevenfold also. Thats where my name comes from their nickname is A7X so i turned it into a7tex(eira)
what do you mean by "pretending to be"
lol, only a little, we need to see more of what he showed us after the break. If we see that, there will be a huge group back on his bandwagon.
Come on Chad, settle down.
you guys think Gaudin is better? look at this
The way Joba has been pitching he'd have given up four runs by now.
now be quiet fake joba.
Atta boy Chad.
200 hits for Jeets, alotta baseballs for the mantle this year.
Congrats Jeet. Another 200-hit season.
Hey Greg, same anon who asked you about the music. I get you, good list by the way.
arods new nickname...2-face.
I mean pretending because the real Joba is sitting in the dugout right now.
Should have put this guy away by now. Have to tack on against this mob.
I'm on my iphone.
lol prove it.
okay fake joba.
And if you're on an Iphone you can easily do it. Take a pic from the dugout and email to GCohen9782@gmail.com
I'll try to get the camera guy's attention before the next break.
okay ya fake.
oh dont buy his shit greg
I'm not, but I'll play along.
btw, good news on Robertson I see there, cant wait to have him back.
could it be that Gaudin is actually showing himself to be a viable 4 starter? this is the best hes been all year and its against the best competition.
Two more innings and I'll say yes. I just want to see him give them length.
this is the best movement by him i've seen since we got him.
True, he's been great so far. I like this dude. He seems to be rising to the occasion, which is more than I can say for others.
RESIGN HIDEKI!
YES! Matsui makes it 5-0. This guy is on a tear.
Matsui does it again!
Damn... I really don't want to lose him next year. He's a great hitter.
Durden... I didn't see that before I posted it. Glad to see others feel the same way. I'd hate to see him on a rival... especially the sox.
Hey gang,
I case you haven't heard, that D-bad Curt Shilling announced that the won't seek Kennedy's senate seat.
How is everyone doing this fine evening?
Hey CF, how's it going, man?
We had a music discussion before, who are your favorites?
Hey Scott, what's up?
Same question for you.
cf, i don't think you have to worry. i think he's back home next season in japan. if he gets a ring, i think its even more likely.
Beatles
Pink Floyd
The Who
Nice Scott.
And after reading some of the bands you guys listed, I am starting to feel very old... I have never heard of half of them.
Don't Scott. Some of us wish we were around to see some of the greatest perform live.
Saw Pink Floyd 5 times
Saw The Who play "Tommy" at the old stadium in Toronto in '89
Saw Paul McCartney at the old stadium in Toronto in '94
Lucky bastard.
My mom saw Dylan and The Who at the Fillmore East in the mid to late 60's. I tell her often how jealous I am.
I wish I could have seen The Who in their prime, "Live at Leeds" is the best live album EVER.
Floyd kicked ass every time I saw them tough.. and Canadian customs loves it when you tell them you are entering the country to go to a Pink Floyd concert. They took the seats out of my car the bastards.
Scott, when did you see Floyd?
3 times in '87, and twice in '94.
Saw them at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse and Exhibition Stadium in Toronto.
Nice, sorry to hear about your car seats though.
I'm doing well... well I am if Gaudin gets Abreu out.
Damn... he didn't. Get him out of the game now. He lost his chance for a win.
Yeah, it was a bitch getting them back in... but on the plus side, the drinking age back then was 18 in Canada, and 21 in New York, so we'd go on a beer run at least once a month.
I do not like leaving him in there.
They should have brought Aceves in.
Why was that pitch to Guerrero anywhere near the zone? He swings at anything. Stupid, stupid pitching.
Son of a bitch! I knew it. Wasn't it obvious that he had lost it already?
Now the tying run comes to the plate!
how does the ump not call strike three on figgins?, as soon as he didnt punch him out i knew it'd bite Gaudin in the ass... Fkn BS
