He had an MRI and said no injury was apparent. From Marc Carig via Twitter:“I’m confident it’s not going to be anything,” he said.
David Robertson shut down with tightness in right elbow. Going to Dr. Andrews.Tyler Kepner said he will have an MRI once he gets to Andrews.
Plus here's two more tweets from Carig:
Robertson has felt tightness in elbow the last couple weeks. No pain, just tightness after his outings.
Team still not sure when Robertson will see Andrews. But Girardi doesn't rule out return this season.Over his last 14 games Robertson went 1-0, with 5 holds, and had a 2.13 ERA. In 12.2 innings he allowed 3 ER on 12 hits, walked 5, and struck out 22. He was quickly becoming a major part of the Yankees pen so this loss could hurt. Hopefully it's not something that will require surgery.

Damn, hope he's back in time for the playoffs.
Me too, this would be a bad loss. Not crushing, but bad.
I wonder who would replace him?
Yeah. What's up guys?
How was the game Greg?
Probably somebody already on the roster like Melancon or Towers.
If he's out for the rest of the year.
Hey YB, it was fun, had a good time.
Liam, Bruney's role just got a lot larger.
Nothing much YB! Yeah Greg, how was the sluggfest?
Glad you had fun Greg.
It was fun. Always love watching the Yankees destroy a team. Tex looks like he got his swing back.
He sure does have his swing back. I like that no one is really intrested in the Kennedy news.
I just got done calling Robertson the Yankees' secret weapon! I hope he's ok. I'm sure the Yankees are just being overly cautious, I hope so anyway. He's been throwing so well....
As for Joba to the pen (where he belongs!) for the postseason-- as long as he isn't 'gassed' that'll be fine with me. Can you imagine a 7-8-9 inning of Joba, Hughes & Mo? Scary. But that's only if he's not throwing a 91-mph straight ball and can get his breaking pitches in the strike zone.
He has been throwing well Steve. I like Joba in the pen for the divsion series. But if the yankees move on, I want him back in the rotation.
Liam, do you mean Joba has been throwing well?
No, we don't want to over use CC, AJ, and Pettitte.
If the Yankees have home field advantage in the AL, they can select how they want to play the ALDS. If they choose the 8-day option, they could use just 3 starters in all 5 games (if nec.) with full rest, then use the same 3 starters in the ALCS on more than full rest.
True Steve.
umm can I say not good?
The good news it is tightness and not pain. There is a big difference. You are hoping its only a couple of week thing. and he comes back late september and gets ready for the playoffs.
What shame for Robertson he was having a great year and Girardi was using him in more high leverage situations. It be a big loss for the bullpen if he is out. You would love to see Melancon step up.
I keep waiting for Melancon to show us on the MLB level what I saw in Trenton & what he did in SWB. He has been uncharacteristically wild with the Yankees. He's faced 62 batters and has 9 BBs, 1 wild pitch and 3 HBP. Yet even so, in 13.2 innings, only 10 hits and 8 Ks.
For now, let's just hope Dr Andrews finds nothing serious.
Melancon had 11 walks in 53 ip in scranton.
He has 9 walks in 13.2 ip in the majors. Melancon control his not that bad with what he is showing. He needs to relax a little bit. He is not ready for high leverage situations. Girardi has got to slowly build him up like he did with David Robertson.
I agree with that, Anon. I also think Melancon needs to relax.
Times like this I keep thinking of that great line from Bull Durham-- "Don't think, Meat, just pitch."
Anon, I agree 100%. He's too nervous right now.
Great movie Steve.
nice blog.
