News & Notes

- At 103-59 the Yankees had the best record in all of baseball. And at 46-35 they had the second best road record in the American League, behind only the Angels (48-33).

- The Yankees have not won a postseason series since 2004, the team they beat that year was, you guessed it, the Twins.

- The Yankees are 9-0 against the Twins this season including games 1 and 2.

- Andy Pettitte has faced the Twins 19 times in his career, and is 9-5, with a 3.70 ERA. In one start this year he allowed 4 runs on 12 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 in 6.2 innings pitched in a win. Andy is 14-9, with a 3.96 ERA in 35 postseason starts. His last playoff start came in game 2 of the 2007 ALDS against the Indians. In 6.1 innings shutout innings, he allowed 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5.

- In four career starts against the Yankees, Carl Pavano is 0-1, with a 4.76 ERA. In two no decisions this year he had a 2.70 ERA against them, and in 13.1 innings he allowed 4 ER on 11 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. In 8 postseason games (2 as a starter) Pavano is 2-0, with a 1.40 ERA. All those games came with the Marlins in 2003.

- Since game 5 of the 2004 ALCS Alex Rodriguez wass hitting .143 (8-for-56) with two doubles, a homer, an RBI, 10 walks, and 18 strikeouts. Now he's 4-for-8 with a HR, 5 RBI and a two runs scored.

- Minnesota finished 17-4 to make up a seven game deficit in early September to overtake the Detroit Tigers and win the AL Central.
