Marc Carig had this quote from Girardi, which told the whole story without explicitly saying it:
"You'd love to be able to set yourself," Girardi said. "That was the importance of grinding it out at the end of the season so we could set ourselves up."
The real question is do you throw him in game four if the game turn out to be a must-win, and by must-win I mean anything less than a 3-0 Yankees lead. It's either you go with CC on short-rest or start Chad Gaudin. For me the answer is a loud YES.
Sabathia proved last year the three days rest is more than enough for the big lefty to be successful. In four career starts with three days rest CC is 3-1, with a 1.01 ERA. In 26.2 innings he allowed 3 ER on 16 hits, walked 6, and struck out 26. And really, there's no reason to mess around with Chad Gaudin in that situation.
What would you do, start CC on short rest or go with Gaudin in game 4?
