4/14 Minor League Report

==== ============

(Triple-A)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (4-3) beat Syracuse (5-2) 1-0: Box Score - Recap

MONTERO WATCH: Montero was moved from 6th to 4th in this game after having the game winning hit Tuesday. He had his first multi-hit game of the season going 3-4 with a double (3) and 2 singles. He has hit in all 7 games. He upped his average to .321.

PITCHING: Zach McAllister got his 2nd start of the year in this game. He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the 1st on 2 singles (1 infield) and an error. He had 2 K’s in the inning. McAllister had a scoreless 2nd inning with a strikeout and walk. In the 3rd, he worked out of another bases loaded jam on 3 singles. Thru 3 innings he had 70 pitches. Another scoreless inning in the 4th, with a 2-out walk. McAllister gave up a leadoff single to Kevin Mench (remember him?) to start the 5th and was relieved. Not pretty, but effective score-wise. McAllister’s line: 4.0 IP, 0 runs, 6 hits, 4 K’s---2 walks ERA 3.72. 3 GO--4 FO, 87 pitches--56 strikes.

Royce Ring relieved McAllister with one on and nobody out in the 5th. Ring gave up a single to the first man he faced but got the next 3 to get out of the inning. Syracuse stranded 10 men thru the first 5 innings. Ring threw a scoreless 6th after giving up a leadoff walk. Ring got the win (1-0). Ring’s line: 2.0 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit, 2 K’s--1 walk.

Amaury Sanit came on to pitch the 7th. He got in trouble with an infield hit and walk, but worked out of the jam as Syracuse continued to leave men on base, 14 thru 7 innings. Sanit threw a perfect 8th with 2 strikeouts. Sanit’s line: 2.0 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit, 3 K--1 W.

Mark Melancon came on to pitch a clean 9th picking up a strikeout and his 1st save.

OFFENSE: Andrew Kown got the start for the Chiefs. The Yankees mounted a 2-out threat in the 1st when Juan Miranda and Jesus Montero had bloop singles, but could not score. The Yankees wasted a leadoff double in the 4th by Montero. They took a 1-0 lead in the 5th when Greg Golson led off the inning with a homer (1). That turned out to be all the scoring in the game. Montero picked up his 3rd hit with a 1-out single in the 6th. Jon Weber was then hit by a pitch, but Chad Huffman lined into a DP to end the inning. In the 7th, Colin Curtis and Reegie Corona singled, Kevin Russo walked to load the bases. Eduardo Nunez then hit into a DP to end the inning.

NOTES: Dustin Moseley was placed on the DL with some tenderness in his forearm. Reliever Kevin Whelan was brought up from Trenton to replace Moseley on the roster. Romulo Sanchez gets his 2nd start Thursday against Syracuse.
