A great play by Eduardo Nunez and Colin Curtis made a perfect throw to nail the runner at 3rd after a single, as Sanit worked out of the jam. In the 8th Sanit gave up a 1-out infield hit and was relieved. Sanit got the win. Line: 1.1 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits. ERA 3.00

Mark Melancon came on in relief of Ring with 2 out in the 8th and a runner at 2nd base. He walked his first batter then got a lineout to right field that Curtis made a great diving play on for the final out of the inning. Melancon gave up a solo homer to Mike Cervenak to lead off the 9th to cut the Yankee lead to 7-2. Melancon got the save (2). Melancon’s line: 1,1 IP, 1 run, 1 hit, 1 K--2 walks. ERA 1.74.

SWB loaded the bases in the 1st on singles by Greg Golson and Juan Miranda, and a walk to David Winfree, but Jon Weber, who’s been struggling so far, hit into a DP to end the threat. Jesus Montero led off the 2nd inning with his 1st AAA homer to give SWB a 1-0 lead. Golson had a leadoff triple in the 3rd, but was stranded. Dickey retired the next 9 Yankee hitters. SWB wasted a leadoff single in the 6th by Nunez. The Yankees took a 2-1 lead in the 8th on Golson’s single and stolen base, and Winfree’s rbi single. In the 9th, the Yankees broke the game open with 5 runs to take a 7-1 lead. Weber walked, Montero singled, and Curtis walked to load the bases with no outs. They then added 3 more walks with the bases loaded by Kevin Russo, Golson and Nunez to force in 3 runs. Miranda added a rbi single and Winfree had a rbi sac fly.
NOTES: Romulo Sanchez, who got pounded his last start, makes his 3rd start Tuesday as the series vs. Buffalo ends.... Kevin Russo did not start the game. He’s mired in a 2 for 26 slump, but he had a rbi walk in the game.... The Mets called up hot prospect Ike Davis to NY. He looked very good so far against SWB. Davis is son of former Yankee Ron Davis. ... John Van Benschoten was called up to Scranton from Double-A Trenton to take Boone Logan's spot on the roster.
