Off-Night Open Thread: A Baseball Season is Not 12 Games Long

While I'm as happy as the next Yankees fan to see the Yanks get off to the great start that they have, I think a lot of people need to slow down a bit and stop counting their chickens before they hatch.

The papers and blogs this morning were filled with articles about how all is right in Yankeeland, while others places around the net are already counting the Red Sox out, and some are apparently so bored they're even questioning their own fandom.

Now, I'm not looking to rain on anyone's parade, or anything like that, because the Yankees do look very very good. This is a very good team that should be right there come October. I just want to say chill out, it's 12 games, and there's a whole lot a baseball left. And if you hadn't noticed, thanks to the Rays win today in Boston the Yankees aren't even in first place.

We all know that if they have a bad road trip all hell will break loose and people will start to wonder how good this team actually is, which would also be a premature reaction.

Let's just enjoy this little hot streak while it lasts, there will be more down as the season goes on as well as the usual bumps in the road. Remember, we Yankees fans know very well all about how little slow or hot starts mean, the baseball season is a marathon not a sprint.

.....

In other news, the Yankees are slightly out pacing last year's attendance marks through the first homestand of the season. Last year they averaged 44,502 through the first six games, while this year it's bumped up to 44,603. So it should be another great year for the Yankees financially, which is always good, unless you root for the other 29 teams in the league. I was going to write a full post about this, but I figured I'd just throw it in here.

.....

I also got this in my inbox about The Lineup on MSG, which I wanted to pass along. I've mentioned this show in the past, and since it's pretty entertaining here's another reminder:
Be sure to tune-in to the next episode, Tuesday, April 20th starting at 10:30PM, as the panel continues to move around the diamond and will determine NY's All-Time Best Short-stop.
