On The Big League Stew Curtis Granderson wrote about how excited he is to be making his first appearance as a Yankee at the Stadium tomorrow. However, he was happy he opened the regular season on the road:
"It was good to get a few games as a Yankee under my belt so I could get comfortable and relaxed with my new teammates. Yes, there might be some nerves before the game, but they won't be as high as they might have been had my first game as a Yankee come at Yankee Stadium."
Curtis Granderson has started off his first season as a Yankee by belting out some key hits, running the bases with speed and intelligence, and playing a solid centerfield by covering a lot of ground. Not to mention throwing the ball with strength and accuracy. In 6 games he is hitting .348 with 2 homers, 3 steals and OBP .423. He has done this despite struggling against 2 tough lefties in Lester and Price. Overall I have been impressed with his great start.
Off the field Granderson appears to be a solid citizen and he seems like he fits in with his new team very well. He was loved in Detroit by his manager, teammates and the fans. In this article he shows how he likes to interact with the fans.
One of the traditions for a new Yankee is getting a home run call by John Sterling. After Granderson's first home run last week against the Red Sox Sterling belted out: "Oh Curtis, you're something sort of Grandish." He later added, "the Grandy Man can"to the end of it. Not the popular choice but I guess we are stuck with it.
Next on the agenda for Curtis is working on his response to the Roll Call. In the story he says:
"The one thing everyone keeps asking me about is what I am going to do to respond to the Roll Call tradition from the Bleacher Creatures. "
So Curtis asked for suggestions. Some of the more entertaining responses were:
"Do some pushups, show the fans you're working hard for us!! ""Curtsie""Do a backflip""Learn how to hit lefties!""How about a quick jog in place and then the electric slide...""Ask Swisher"
We'll find out today. Any other suggestions out there in case he's reading?
