News & Notes

- Joe Girardi announced before the game that Joba Chamberlain is the 8th inning guy from now on. While he was already being used as such, now it's official. Here's a quote from Girardi via Chad Jennings:
"I think he’s done what most of us expected him to do,” Girardi said. “I think he’s enjoying himself and what he’s doing. It’s nice when guys have roles and you can turn to them and when the phone rings, they know it’s them.”
- Phil Hughes has only faced the A's three times, all in relief. In 4.1 innings he's has yet to allow a run and has given up just two hits and walked two.

- Ben Sheets has made one career start against the Yankees, which came back in 2005. He won the start, and allowed just two hits and walked five over 7 shutout innings.

- The Yankees have won five in a row and eight of their last nine.
