4/16 Minor League Report

The 1st place SWB Yanks defeated Charlotte Knights (White Sox) by a score of 4-2 to run their season record to 10-4. They're currently 2.5 games ahead of 2nd place Pawtucket Red Sox.

PITCHING: Darrell Rasner made his 3rd start and pitched another solid game. Rasner came into the game with a 2-0 record and sparkling 0.74 era. ... He went 5 plus innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, on 4 hits. 2 of the hits were of the infield variety. Rasner had 6 K's and 3 walks....Charlotte scored a run in the 5th on an infield hit. The runner moved up to second on a groundout and scored on a single to tie the game at 1-1. ... Rasner started the 6th and walked the first 2 men he faced before being relieved. ... Rasner threw 103 pitches--65 strikes, 7 groundouts - 2 flyouts. His era climbed to 1.06.

Heath Phillips relieved Rasner in the 6th with 2 on and nobody out. An unearned run scored on a throwing error by Eric Duncan on a fielders choice. Phillips picked up his first win. ... Scott Patterson pitched a scoreless 8th with 2 strikeouts. ... Jose Veras picked up the save with a scoreless 9th after loading the bases on 2 walks and a HBP. It was Veras' 3rd save.

OFFENSE:
SWB jumped out on top with an unearned run in the first when Brett Gardner bunted back to the pitcher Lance Broadway. Broadway threw the ball away and Gardner made it to 3rd base. He scored on a Bernie Castro rbi single to make it SWB 1-0. ... They scored the 2nd run in the 6th inning on a solo homer by Juan Miranda (2) to give them a 2-1 lead. ... SWB won the game with 2 runs in the 8th inning. Greg Porter pinch hit for catcher Jason Brown and walked. Gardner had a sac bunt and once again reached on a throwing error. Miranda followed with a 2-rbi single. Final score Yanks 4-2.

NOTES: Shelly Duncan was 0-3 with 2 walks and is now hitting .393. ... Brett Gardner was 0-3 with 2 runs scored and is hitting .333.

GOD, that Gardner is SUCH a fire starter... shame i cant picture a situation where he gets called up and it makes no difference in our lineup. Damon or Melky would have to go down and even then hed only be spelling Matsui or late be a late inning defensive replacement. But boy I hope we see him at somepoint before september.

You're exactly right, the guy gets things going, he's got great speed, he can hit, and he's very good in the outfield. He would be a great addition to this team, but like you said, right now he has no place.

I have no idea how this team is going to use this guy, but they have to find a way.

imagine him on the postseason roster comin in in the 7th down by 1 and bunt/error/stolen base/wild pitching it home in just two pitches with no outs.

Even if thats a best case scenario, its one he seems to play out quite often.

He defines the word Manufacture.
