PITCHING: Darrell Rasner made his 3rd start and pitched another solid game. Rasner came into the game with a 2-0 record and sparkling 0.74 era. ... He went 5 plus innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, on 4 hits. 2 of the hits were of the infield variety. Rasner had 6 K's and 3 walks....Charlotte scored a run in the 5th on an infield hit. The runner moved up to second on a groundout and scored on a single to tie the game at 1-1. ... Rasner started the 6th and walked the first 2 men he faced before being relieved. ... GOD, that Gardner is SUCH a fire starter... shame i cant picture a situation where he gets called up and it makes no difference in our lineup. Damon or Melky would have to go down and even then hed only be spelling Matsui or late be a late inning defensive replacement. But boy I hope we see him at somepoint before september.
You're exactly right, the guy gets things going, he's got great speed, he can hit, and he's very good in the outfield. He would be a great addition to this team, but like you said, right now he has no place.
I have no idea how this team is going to use this guy, but they have to find a way.
imagine him on the postseason roster comin in in the 7th down by 1 and bunt/error/stolen base/wild pitching it home in just two pitches with no outs.
Even if thats a best case scenario, its one he seems to play out quite often.
