Dodgers have an interest in Robinson Cano and might be willing to deal Derek Lowe and outfielder Matt Kemp, but the Yankees aren't inclined to part with the red-hot second baseman unless there is a front-of-the-rotation-type starter coming to The Bronx. Lowe, who has the stomach for big games and has AL East experience with the Red Sox, doesn't fit that bill. The Yankees should not make this trade.
Kemp, 23, would be viewed as a replacement for Bobby Abreu in right field next year. Kemp is batting .287 (104-for-362) with 11 homers and 55 RBIs in 94 games this season. His biggest downside is striking out 107 times.
Matt Kemp is a very good young ball player, but so is Cano. Cano is also a very very good defensive second baseman. And since Lowe stinks, it's basically a one-for-one with Cano for Kemp. With Cano finally starting to hit, and hit a lot, and the Yankees offense maybe finally finding itself, to make a move like this now would be stupid.
What do you guys thinks, would you make this trade?

as much as i killed cano earlier in the year i always hoped he would step it up in the second half as he has done in the past. looks like he is living up to his expectations. i would have to say the nay-no on that trade my brotha! melky on the other hand......
I'd trade Melky and another high-level prospect for Kemp alone, in a heartbeat. I just don't want to trade Cano.
There's no way they want Melky, they already have too many outfielders to begin with. Kemp is a young stud, who hits for avg, steals bases- 22 so far this year, and has pop. If we had another up and coming 2nd baseman, I'd think about it. But since we dont, no.
Send Betemit back to the Dodgers along with a grade B prospect or Hawkins. Betemit's got some pop in his bat and the Yanks have plenty of average hitting corner infielders at SWB. Hawkins could succeed again in the NL West.
^ For what Kemp and Lowe? The Dodgers wouldnt do that ever. Dodgers fans dont want this trade to happen either. They think Kemp is so much better than Cano. They just dont know, Roby Cano!
replace Lowe with Billingsley and I might do it.
No.
I know they don't want Melky. I'm sorry If I made it seem that I thought they did.
I'd trade cano for kemp and martin :D otherwise no thanks.
No Way.
Cano is playing well and has the potential to be an anchor in The Yankees batting order. He's still a little immature at the plate, but his defensive skills are outstanding. I would go so far as to say he's a future "Gold Glover". Given this scenario, I would prefer to see Abreu get another year or an extension, keep Cano at 2nd and go after a #1 pitcher. With the "parity" concept, pitchers are at a premium. However, I think it makes more sense to continue building from within then go after an ace if one should become available. Dumping Cano for Kemp and ~ACK~ Lowe is a step backwards- Not forwards. It doesn't really help the Yankees. Make moves that improve the team, not retain the status quo or set them back.
BTW- I don't think Sabathia is the move to make either. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
