Yanks Want To Honor Bernie

A few weeks ago I posted this regarding the possibility that the Yanks might have a "Bernie Williams Day" at Yankee Stadium this season. Well now it appears that Bernie will definitely get his tribute this season.

From Ken Davidoff:
The Yankees are working with Bernie Williams to ensure that the centerfielder, who left the team with hard feelings after the 2006 season, says a public goodbye to Yankee Stadium this season.

The team invited Williams to Oldtimers Day on Aug. 2. For now, Williams has declined because of a long-planned vacation with his family. Club officials are holding out hope that he will change his mind this week.

Nevertheless, if Williams isn't honored on Oldtimers Day, he will be on some other appropriate occasion. If it isn't an entire day dedicated to Williams, then there will be some sort of public acknowledgment that will give the fans a chance to thank Williams.

There clearly were hurt feelings and anger on both sides. ... But those wounds have healed, and everyone is on board for a Bernie tribute before the Yankees move across the street to their new ballpark.
The Yankees also tried to get Bernie to pull the countdown lever at the Stadium for when it went down to 51, but he couldn't make it that night as well.

I hope they give him a full fledged "Bernie Williams Day," he deserves it.

they should let him play the national anthem on his guitar like jimi hendrix to open the world series. he could do a duet with that guitar guy with the afro that used to hang out in front of the parking garage across from gate 6. the flute guy from the tunnel could join in too. maybe some backup vocals from the original "why lie i need a beer?" guy if you can find him.

That not a bad idea, well, beside the Afro guy part.
