I don't know what to make of Hughes. He seems to be one of the most inconsistant young players we've had in a while. At times he'll appear to have the potential to be dominant, and at other times he'll get knocked around by AFL hitters. Weird.

It almost makes me wish we had traded Hughes AND Kennedy for Santana... but then I remember that Santana would not be as good in the AL East as he was in the NL, nor even as good as he was in the AL Central. Plus, Hughes (and Kennedy) are still young with lots of potential, and are still trade commodities at worst.

I'm also not going to judge Hughes on just one start, as it's going to take time for him to start getting in a groove after all his time off, and I'd imagine he's still getting his strength back, too.

Hughes is good when he has command of all of his pitches. If he's lacking command he's going to get hammered.
That's why we're seeing this inconsistency - he's still missing something command wise.

Hopefully as he matures as a pitcher he will fix this.

I still see Hughes as trade bait. I'm just not convinced he'll be a great pitcher for us.

Of course I've been wrong many times....
