King also says earlier in the article that Yankee staff members have heard Mussina say he was going to retire. Take it for what it's worth folks.
I remember hearing that Mussina would only want to return to the Yankees or retire, but that could have changed I guess. There would surly be other teams interested in his services, especially after the year he just had. There are a bunch of teams close enough to Montoursville to fit Mussina's needs. And I'm sure a few of them would like to sign Moose but I still think if he comes back it will be in Yankee Pinstripes.

It's very common for "possible retiree's" to file for free agency.
King 3 is not breaking any world exclusive here.
I agree Mike, I don't think this is a big deal, but I wanted to post it. Not much else going on in Yankee-Land today.
That's true, Greg. Unless you want to make up stuff like King 3 and Sherman do or resurrect "Yanks interested in Bonds" type junk.
That'd be funny if "Moose" went elsewhere. But who knows? We'd better get a few good pitchers....
Mike
I can't see Moose really having any interest in playing for someone other than the Yankees. I think he's just keeping his options open in case the Yankees don't offer him the three year deal he wants. If for some reason the organization only offers him a one year deal, he may look elsewhere.
The Yanks probably should bring back Mussina, although I'm not sure he's got the three years in him he thinks he does. I think he's a much safer bet than Pettitte though. Andy didn't show me much this year that gives me any hope that he can continue to be successful in this league (although he still has the best pick-off move in all of baseball).
I agree Jeff, I can't see him signing somewhere else.
I also think they should bring him back, but I do think 3 years is OK.
This article really goes out on a limb.
"He might come back... or he might not come back. Really, actually, we have nothing to report here. Sorry about that."
Yea that pretty much sums it up.
That is exactly what King 3's "stories" are...filler between the ads for topless bars and online casino's.
Moose wolud defently be back in pinsrtipes next year if he wants to play some more. Other teams wouldn't take the chance to have a 40 year old pitcher on there team. But the Yankees would be making a great move if mike wants to play some more. For a gut his age, he dose't pitch as fast as he used to, but is stuff is really nasty.
