Center Field Decision Coming Soon, But Both Candidates Should Make Team

From Pat Borzi:
Going into the final weekend of spring training, the Yankees still have decisions pending on a handful of jobs. Center field is one. Manager Joe Girardi said he already had a “pretty good idea” of his choice, which he would most likely make final Sunday after meeting with General Manager Brian Cashman and the coaches. Cabrera has also had a good spring, batting .313 with nine runs batted in, but Girardi reiterated Friday that he would not platoon them if both make the club.
But it would appear that both players will make the team. Here's more from Kat O'Brien:
The competition between centerfielders Brett Gardner and Melky Cabrera is likely to end with both players making the Yankees.

"That's probably my expectation right now," manager Joe Girardi said Friday.
If the decision is coming within the next two days I'm going to assume it's Gardner who gets, and probably already has the starting job. Carrying Melky as a bench player is fine by me. At this point it looks like Posada is doing well and they don't need to carry a third catcher, so the extra outfielder shouldn't hurt.

Both players make the team, translation Brett Gardner is the starter and Melky is out of options. Cashman said that if Gardner didn't win the starting job they would probably send him down to triple a to get at bats.
